How they make Pottery
Ceramic tiles, jars, and dishes can be found for sale all over the city of Puebla, and most of the historic centre’s colonial buildings are decorated with them. I was invited along with another photographer to visit a local family run ceramic business that has been around for generations. I was shown how they use a mix of traditional and modern methods to produce a variety of designs.
Many Mexican states have different methods and traditions and also specialise in a variety of different ceramics. Unfortunately, the number of artisans has been dropping due to competition from mass-produced items. The production of folk art and fine ware still has an important role.
